The History of the Westside church of Christ:
The Westside Church of Christ, which currently meets at 1301 North Enterprise
Drive in Bloomington, IN,
was formed in 1987 as a small group of Christians who were standing strong for Christ in a time of great difficulty and uncertainty. As we began searching for a permanent place to worship the Lord, we met in member's
homes, schools, funeral homes, libraries and assorted other places. Through it
all, our small group remained focused on serving the Lord and following His commandments.
During this time, Jay Guyer was the full time preacher. Jay and his family labored with our group for approximately
2 years.
The Lord blessed us with a small church building in 1990 and we came
to be known as the South Rogers Church of Christ. During this time, Mike Sobiech
came to work with our group. Mike had previously been a student at Indiana University
and attended with us while going to school. After a few years, our congregation
began to grow and we soon realized that we needed a larger place in which to worship.
Our congregation again started meeting in Funeral
homes and Libraries for the next few years as we were striving to have a building built that would meet the needs of our group. During this time, Mike Sobiech left the group and began preaching in Brentwood, TN. The
men of our congregation assumed preaching responsibilities and our work to serve the Lord continued. This added responsibility was well received by the men of the group and fostered the growth of many young
and first time preachers.
In 2004, our congregation moved into its
current location and continues to serve the Lord there today. Neil Tremblett
came to work with our group in the Spring of 2006 and continues to work with us today.
The Lord has blessed
our group in so many ways over the years. The unified body of Christians who
meet here love one another and above that, love the Lord God Almighty. We continually strive to praise God's name, labor in
His Vineyard, reach out to the lost and attain the ultimate goal, which is Heaven.
